People who have watched Vikramarkudu – the original of Rowdy Rathore – aren’t too pleased with Prabhu Dheva’s Hindi version of the south blockbuster. According to one BollywoodLife reader: “The life lines of Vikramarkudu were the dialogues, the dialogue delivery and actors’ comic timing, but Rowdy Rathore falls short in all three aspects”.
Yet, Akshay Kumar has been rejoicing. When we last checked with the trade pundits, RR’s opening weekend box office collections were higher than any other film that released in 2012. The film’s soaring collections means Akki’s fans aren’t tired of watching him in the repetitive mindless acts.
And that should be a good thing for Shirish Kunder as his film Joker is also the leave-your-brains-behind kind of entertainment. The sci-fi drama is the story of Agastya (Akshay Kumar), a researcher probing the existence of aliens in the universe, who returns to his native village. The out of luck Agastya decides to put his gaon on the global map and continues with his alien exploration from there.
Trade analysts are worried about the fate of the film at BO, as they don’t think the story is intelligent enough for the audiences to spend their hard-earned money on it. After reading Joker’s plotline we too began to doubt the film’s outcome, but maybe Akki’s new-found BO luck and his crackling chemistry with Sonakshi will woo the audiences back to cinema halls for another crazy ride.
Let’s wait to find out what destiny holds in store for Joker!
